Our Story

Magnetic Business Development was founded on a simple observation.

In complex, high-value and regulated sectors, progress is rarely driven by volume. It is driven by trust, credibility and the right conversations with the right people.

Too often, business development is treated as a numbers exercise. Activity is prioritised over quality, outreach is disconnected from strategy, and relationships are reduced to transactions. The result is inconsistent pipeline, missed opportunities and a disconnect between how organisations operate and how they are perceived.

With a first-class honours degree in Marketing Communications and over 25 years’ experience in strategic marketing, business development and stakeholder engagement, our founder, Ebony Varney, had seen first-hand the difference the right conversations can make. Not just in generating commercial opportunities, but in enabling meaningful, purpose-led initiatives that require alignment across multiple stakeholders.

Magnetic Business Development was created to offer a more considered, structured and relationship-led approach.

We combine strategic thinking with a professional UK-based outreach team to open and develop conversations with senior decision-makers and key stakeholders. Conversations grounded in clarity, credibility and genuine commercial or purpose-led intent.

Our work is particularly effective in technical, professional and regulated sectors, where trust is earned, decisions are considered, and the quality of relationships directly influences outcomes.

My ‘Story’

I wanted to share a little of my story, so you can understand what drives me and why I created Magnetic BD.

In my twenties, a client offered me a sales role at a London marketing agency. I said I wasn’t keen on cold calling – he said it wasn’t phone-based… it was! But once I got started, I realised that when done well, it’s an art – about building trust, creating connection, and opening doors to meaningful business relationships.

That determination to master whatever I do comes from wanting to make my parents, especially my Dad proud. He built and sold his own business, and I’ve inherited that same drive. From my first pub job at 13 to earning a First-Class Honours degree in Marketing Communications, I’ve always given my all.

Over time, I’ve learnt that growth isn’t just about numbers — it’s about helping others, building real relationships, and aligning purpose with progress. That’s the ethos behind Magnetic BD.
